Launch at Steel Creek and take out at Hasty for a full upper Buffalo continuation through Kyles Landing, Erbie, Ozark, and Pruitt. Use the direct Pruitt USGS gauge as the low-water check, and skip the route when the river is rising fast, very low, or above the NPS unsafe level.

Access caveats
- Steel Creek can fill quickly during good water windows, and Hasty is a simple rural take-out with limited services and slower response if problems develop late in the day.
- This route inherits the rough-road practical constraints from Kyle's Landing plus the longer upper-district shuttle across several park accesses.
- NPS says no road follows the river, access roads may be unpaved or rocky, and GPS can be unreliable in the park. Carry a real map and do not assume cell service.
- This route uses the direct Pruitt gauge with minimum-only scoring. It is not a full ideal-range recommendation.
Watch for
- Swift Class I-II current, shoals, wave trains, sharp bends, side channels, strainers, sweepers, and cold-water swims over a very long day.
- Fast rain rises, falling water after short rain windows, fresh flood wood, and blind side channels.
- The Little Buffalo River enters in the lower half of the day and NPS says the river typically gains velocity from there.
- Low water below about 100 cfs at Pruitt, when the Float Guide marks Pruitt very low and the full upstream corridor can turn into repeated dragging and missed lines.
- High water above the NPS 2,000 cfs Pruitt unsafe level; do not treat flood or rising water as suitable private-boater conditions.
