  American Whitewater identifies Amphitheater, a Class V rapid about 1.7 miles below the start. Scout from Highway 95 and use the river-right portage/exit only if the line is not unquestionably clean for the crew. The highway follows the reach, but much of the shoreline is private. Use only the Hazard Creek confluence access, the signed Highway 95 rest-area landing, and Riggins City Park; do not improvise bank access or portage through private yards. Use 500 cfs as a conservative low-water floor, about 1,200 cfs as the published optimal cue, and 3,000 cfs as the high-water limit. Check the direct gauge, road conditions, fire notices, and the Salmon River takeout before launch.
