Quick answers
Animas River paddling FAQ
Where can I paddle the Animas River?
Farmington publishes the Riverside Park–Penny Lane, Penny Lane–Animas Park, and Animas Park–Boyd Park landing distances. Aztec maps Cedar Hill, public access points, diversion hazards, and the route to Farmington. The trip selector keeps all ten endpoint choices, including longer combinations and intermediate take-outs.
How should I check Animas River water levels?
Check the station and flow notes for the selected trip. Cedar Hill–Aztec Riverside uses USGS 09364010 below Aztec; downstream choices use direct stations near Penny Lane or Farmington depending on the endpoints. Farmington says the Animas is too low for rafting below 600 cfs, which is a rafting planning cue rather than a safety limit for every craft or reach. Check the live reading, trend, weather, sediment, and access notices.
Which Animas River route is best today?
Compare current scores where available, along with water level, recent trend, weather, access, and route difficulty. Planning-only cards provide trip information without a live paddling recommendation.
