  • The Crystal valley includes private parcels and restricted fishing or shoreline areas. Do not trespass for a better put-in, scout, portage, take-out, or campsite; use only marked public access or a separately verified permission.
  • Scout both highway culverts from the road before launch. Treat each as a mandatory portage and carry around any wood, debris, or unsafe current; keep the crew together and preserve an alternate exit above the first culvert when feasible.
  • Bogan Flats is a designated campground with river-adjacent sites, but reservations, seasonal operations, fire restrictions, bear rules, and river-entry conditions change. Confirm the current Recreation.gov listing and do not assume a campsite is available or a formal boat ramp exists.
  • The route must end at the named Redstone take-out before the separate downstream Crystal reaches. Do not continue through private or unverified access areas.

  • USGS 09081600 below 100 cfs, above 3,000 cfs, rapidly rising, unavailable, or inconsistent with the reach assessment and local visual check
  • Class III–IV current, blind curves, undercuts, boulders, wood/strainers, cold water, mandatory culvert portages, high-water Class V escalation, and limited recovery
  • Gunnison County Road 3/Highway 133 access changes, private-property boundaries, campground reservations/fire restrictions, road closures, and failure to exit at Redstone
