- NPS warns that streams can rise quickly after moderate or heavy rain, and the Superintendent's Compendium closes non-motorized vessels at the Van Buren Bridge at 5.00 ft. Check current levels and closures before launching, and do not treat the 700 cfs floor as high-water clearance.
- Follow the signed Cataract landing and verify parking and turnaround conditions on arrival. The NPS operating plan names Cataract as an authorized Lower Current access, but the stored endpoint is a topo-derived point rather than an official NPS GIS coordinate; do not substitute a nearby private bank or another Big Spring-area ramp.
