    American Whitewater rates the reach Class III-IV and identifies a debris-flow-created Class IV+ rapid below Nellies Basin Creek, continuous technical whitewater, scarce eddies, and wood as defining hazards. Use an expert packraft crew with rescue, repair, and communication gear. A current American Whitewater trip report describes 645 cfs as a great flow and notes manageable but present wood hazards; an older report describes about 900 cfs as moderately high and pushy. These are trip-report cues, not a safety guarantee or a hard upper limit. The Julie Creek road is gated and the put-in requires a six-mile hike from the trailhead.
