Launch at Varilla Ramp and finish at 4 Mile Ramp for the official 13.8-mile Upper Cumberland segment above Pineville. Use the Williamsburg gauge and plan conservatively whenever the river is outside the 300 to 700 cfs good band.

Varilla Ramp4 Mile Ramp is the required take-out. KDFWR says a low-head dam lies about three-quarters of a mile downstream of the ramp, so missing the finish is not acceptable.
Take-out
4 Mile RampVarilla has only a small gravel parking area and no other services. Start with shuttle and emergency plans already sorted out.
Road shuttle
Stage the downstream vehicle at 4 Mile Ramp first, then drive back to Varilla by US-25E and US-119. This is a real point-to-point upper-river shuttle, not a quick roadside lap.

- Most shoreline between the ramps is private, and the corridor is remote enough that improvised bank exits may be unrealistic.
