Access caveats

  • The Lower Dam and Inlet Road points are public hand-launch access areas, but both require current road, parking, carry, landing, and vehicle-staging checks. Neither is a full-service marina.
  • Lows Upper Dam and the western Lows-to-Oswegatchie connection require signed carries; the current Lows Upper Dam road and nearby shoreline include private-property restrictions. Do not use a private road or unmarked shore as a shortcut.
  • The route includes public water-access anchors rather than a continuous vehicle-access chain. Arrange food, gear, and emergency contingencies for the entire traverse before launching.
  • High Falls is a mandatory carry and hard feature boundary, not a conventional take-out. Finish at Inlet and do not continue into the separate Inlet-to-High Falls out-and-back or other Oswegatchie route records without a new route boundary review.
