Launch at Thunderstruck and finish at Cumberland Falls Carrydown for the shorter official gorge float. The route is only about five miles, but the mandatory right-bank take-out above the falls makes it more serious than the mileage suggests.

Thunderstruck RampKDFWR says to work to the right side of the river before the KY 90 bridge and take out at the falls parking and carrydown area. Missing that move is a stand-down failure, not a recoverable inconvenience.
Take-out
Cumberland Falls CarrydownThis run includes the Pitch Rapids, Slick Shoals gorge, and several drops before the bridge. Treat it as a whitewater route even though KDFWR also frames it as a good angling float.
Road shuttle
Stage the Cumberland Falls vehicle first, then drive back to Thunderstruck by KY 90, US 27, and KY 700. Inspect the take-out before launching because the finish above the falls is the core safety gate for the route.
