  American Whitewater describes swift Class II-III water with occasional Class III-IV sequences, rare eddies, and difficult stopping for loaded rafts. Use a whitewater craft, PFD, helmet, rescue equipment, and a crew capable of moving-water self-rescue. The Forest Service/2026 American Whitewater incident record documents unusually heavy wood, a major obstruction requiring an extended portage, satellite emergency communications, and a fatality context on Marsh Creek. Obtain a current strainer report, send a strong scout boat ahead, and be prepared to turn around or portage. Use the mapped Highway 21/Marsh Creek launch and the Dagger Falls trail above the Boundary Creek launch. Do not continue into Dagger Falls or the permitted Middle Fork corridor without a separate plan, permit check, and expert assessment. The 2.5-3.5 ft Middle Fork stage window is broader downstream proxy context, not a Marsh Creek safety rule. The AW 4.5-ft Dagger Falls report is a historical trip marker; stage trend, snow/ice, wood, weather, and party readiness override it.
