- Do not assume legal landings away from named public accesses; the lower corridor is rural and bordered by private land.
- The official map labels Osterdock and Millville as access points, but same-day scouting is important because the lower accesses are less documented than Elkader, Motor Mill, or Garber.
- Miles Paddled reported confusion around the Millville public-access location and used a private pier instead; use the official Access #5 corridor only after confirming the signed public landing.
- Expect broad lower-river gravel bars, slower current, wood on outside bends, and limited emergency exits.
- Osterdock is the intermediate public access and shorter-trip option for the consolidated route.
