Launch from the Gilbertson Park / Elgin corridor and stay on the Turkey River all the way to Elkader Access #39A for the full upper Turkey River day. The route combines the broad upper valley, the Big Spring corridor, and the mandatory pre-dam Elkader take-out in one long trip.

Gilbertson Park / Elgin access corridorThe practical Elgin launch is the Highway B64 bridge corridor by Gilbertson Park rather than a polished ramp. Walk the bank before unloading if you have not used it before.
Take-out
Elkader Access #39A / Sandpit RoadBig Spring Campground and Frieden Park are the main mid-route public decision points if the group needs to shorten or split the day.
Road shuttle
Use a two-car shuttle between the Elgin / Gilbertson corridor and Elkader Access #39A off Sandpit Road. This is a real full-day route, so many groups will prefer an early launch and a pre-scouted take-out.

- Elkader Access #39A is upstream of the dam. Land on river left at the marked access and do not continue toward the dam unless you are intentionally portaging with current local guidance.

- This is a long day with few clean public exits after Elgin. Do not launch unless the group can comfortably finish before the Elkader dam corridor.
- Storm-changed wood, shallow riffles, and the slowing current above the dam pool can turn a simple-looking day into a tiring one for casual groups.
