- TPWD says Village Creek water quality is variable and not recommended for drinking. Bring your own water even on a short family-style paddle.
- Big Thicket boundaries can sit just above the high-water line in places. Respect preserve boundary markers and do not treat private banks as casual picnic or bailout stops.
- This route uses a conservative minimum-only threshold, not a full ideal-range recommendation. If the gauge is below about 200 cfs, expect more shallow routing, sandbar scraping, and log avoidance.
