- Flows near or below about 200 cfs, or stage below roughly 3 ft, when TPWD says snags, logjams, and sandbars become more prominent and low-water delays compound over a 20.9-mile route.
- High or rising water, especially around 10 ft or higher, when TPWD warns that the creek can become swift and hazardous despite the flatwater setting.
- Heat, thunderstorms, insects, private-bank discipline, and fatigue from treating an easy-looking creek like a casual short float.
