Launch at Blue Heron and take out at Alum Ford for the full easier Big South Fork day below Devil's Jump. Use the Stearns gauge as a direct official flow check and expect the lower half to flatten toward Lake Cumberland compared with the upstream Blue Heron-to-Yamacraw section.

Watch for
- Fast rises after rain in the Clear Fork and New River headwaters, even if only the lower Kentucky section is on the plan.
- Woody debris, boulder shoals, pushier current above 500 cfs, and more serious rescue consequences once the river climbs past the family band.
- Dragging or scraping below 100 cfs in the upper miles, followed by slower pace, wind, and occasional motorboats in the lower lake-headwater section.
- Cold-water exposure, limited cell service, fatigue on the long day, and steep or private banks away from the named public accesses.
