Launch at Blue Heron and take out at Yamacraw for the gentler 5-mile Big South Fork float below Devil's Jump. Use the Stearns gauge as a direct official flow check and stand down when storms or rising water push the river out of the lower bands.

Blue Heron Canoe RampBlue Heron is the correct put-in for the easier family float. Do not continue upstream into the Devil's Jump / wilderness section unless your group has a separate advanced whitewater plan.
Take-out
YamacrawYamacraw is the downstream bridge access on KY 92. Inspect the ramp and parking before committing because bridge-area mud, cleanup, or local traffic can change the landing.
Road shuttle
Stage the Yamacraw take-out first, then drive back to Blue Heron via KY 92 and the signed Blue Heron mine-road corridor. Inspect both accesses before launching because the gorge roads are rural and the bridge-area parking layouts can change with storms or maintenance.
